Great Wyrley Performing Arts High School - Building the future on the best of the past!

Great Wyrley Performing Arts High School is entering a fascinating and exciting phase of its development. Having completed a successful 4 year cycle as a Specialist School and subsequently being re-designated the school grows from strength to strength and the impact on all areas of learning has been enormous.

During this period AS and A2 results have increased year on year and in 2011 97% of students passed with 44% achieving grades A or B. Every student who wanted to go on to University or further study was able to do so and this happens regularly thanks to excellent information, advice and guidance.

As well as the expected developments in the Arts (Music, Theatre Studies, Visual Art and Media) we have used our status as a specialist school to enhance our multi-media ICT facilities across all areas of learning.

Our students have regular opportunities to experience high-quality study via the medium of our Virtual Learning Environment and our Post 16 Students have a new computer suite for their dedicated use.

Being a student at Great Wyrley offers the chance to gain excellent examination results but we are much more than a qualifications factory! Our young people have the chance to develop many skills and qualities that will make them extremely attractive to future employers. Duke of Edinburgh's award, Sports coaching awards, Arts Awards, Peer Mentors, Young Ambassadors, Student Council, Reading Buddies, Charity fund raiser, Young Enterprise member, Community Drama/Music/Art partner and School Employee are just some of the roles and responsibilities that are on offer to our students.

Sixth Form students have attractive purpose-built accommodation where they can both study and relax during the day. The Head of Sixth, the Sixth Form Administrator and a team of Tutors are an experienced and energetic team who provide help, advice and occasionally a shoulder to cry on as students move from Lower Sixth to Upper Sixth and on to Higher Education, further training or employment. There is a real "family" feel about our school and we are as proud of our relaxed but purposeful atmosphere as we are of our results.
