Privacy Notice - Data Protection Act 1998

At school we need to keep information about our students for purposes such as record keeping, reporting to you and registration, and also so we can provide them and you with suitable help and support. This information is held on our secure administration network, and is not available to students, outsiders or unauthorised staff. Under the requirements of the Data Protection Act 1998 we at school need to inform you about what information is held by us about your child.

To do this we need to send out a "Privacy Notice", and attached to this letter is a copy of this notice. It explains why we need the information, and also lists the other educational bodies to whom we pass this on to and those agencies covered by our own data protection notification. For example, the LEA needs to know about your child if an assessment of special need is necessary, or if an employment licence needs to be issued.

It also explains that we pass some data on to the Connexions Agency. This Agency is a public service which provides support for young people aged 13-19 to assist their transition to adulthood. Connexions Personal Advisers work in schools, colleges and Connexions centres in the high street. If you do not wish this agency to receive from us information beyond name and address, please contact us (in writing) no later than 2 weeks after your child is admitted to the school. If we do not hear from you we shall assume that you are happy for us to pass information on to this Agency. If you want to find out more about how the Connexions Agency can help your child, log on to www.cxstaffs.co.uk. There is also a free National Helpline - Connexions Direct 080-800-13-2-19.

We would also like to take this opportunity to assure you that we do not pass on personal information held about your child to any commercial organisations for mail-shot purposes.

The wording of this notice has been supplied by the DfES and has been approved by the County Council's Data Protection Office. If you wish to find out more detail about the Data Protection Act, there is information available on the County Council website at www.staffordshire.gov.uk
